Conservation of Traditional Water Pouring and Blessing Ceremony for the Elderly Day
as well as Weaving, Basketry and Herbal Steaming for Health Care

   In May 2021, COERR Mae Sarieng and Mae Sot continued to organize the Elderly Day Ceremony to convince the community to honor their senior. The traditional water pouring and blessing ceremony was organized in Ban ae Lama Luang, Sob Moei District, Mae Hong Son Province, on May 14th, for 165 participants of 96 females and 69 males. Another Elderly Day Ceremony was organized in Ban Umpiem Temporary Shelter, Phop Phra District, Tak Province, on May 21st, in which 107 elderly of 58 females and 49 males participated. Highlights of the ceremony was to have the younger pour water into the elderly’s hands to show respect and bless them and then receive their blessing in return.

   After the ceremony, youth group gathered and walked to pay home visit to the elderly who were too weak to attend the water pouring and blessing ceremony themselves. It was the proper time to offer both moral support and nutrition food or drink for the elderly’s good health.

Water Pouring and Blessing Ceremony and Home Visit to the Elderly at Ban Umpiem Temporary Shelter
in Poppra District, Tak Province

   During May 18-21, 2021, COERR Mae Hong Son organized conservation of Karen traditional wisdom from senior to younger generations:

     - on 18th, the training of traditional cloth weaving was given to 19 youths of 18 females and 1 male in Ban Mai Nai Soi                      Temporary Shelter in Mae Hong Son Province’s Muaeng District;

     - on 19th, the basketry class was organized for 16 youths of 3 female and 13 male participants in Ban Mai Nai Soi;

     - on 20th, the cloth weaving training was conducted for 20 participants of 17 females and 3 males in Ban Mae Surin                          Temporary Shelter in Mae Hong Son’s Khun Yuam District;

     - on 21st, the basic cloth weaving and basketry training was provided for 20 youth of 14 females and 6 males.

   COERR Mae Sot organized the Traditional Herbal Steaming for Health Care Training in Ban Umpiem Temporary Shelter on May 14, 2021 for for 28 elderly of 22 females and 6 males to share their knowledge.
